Partial Delivery
Exakta reserves the right to partially deliver a customer’s order, provided that the products in the order can be used independently.
Delivery Time
Delivery time is defined as “Ships from” rather than “Delivery to,” which means we guarantee that your order will leave our production facility at the specified time, not that it will be delivered by the specified date.
Pantone is a reference system for specifying color shades, a color model for spot colors. It is always based on the Color System catalog, which displays 1,114 PMS colors. These colors are then mixed at the printing house from 14 standard inks, taking into account the type of paper and other factors. The system is available in advanced graphic design programs such as Illustrator and Corel Draw. It is the opposite of process color, where the color is built up from four base colors, as in the CMYK color model.
EPS – Encapsulated PostScript
A file format primarily used for vector graphics, though it can also handle raster images.
The format is supported in both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. What distinguishes EPS from standard PostScript is that an EPS file must leave the PostScript interpreter in the same state as before it was read, can only contain a single page, and must declare a "bounding box"—a frame that defines the limits of the image.
For raster images, the EPS format includes several useful features. Images can be clipped with paths (clipping paths), and the format can store information about screen type, screen frequency, and transfer curves to adjust image brightness and tones according to print conditions.
An EPS file consists of two parts: an (optional) low-resolution preview image and a PostScript section that can contain both vector and raster graphic commands. The preview image, often in PICT format, is what’s displayed in page layout software. However, modern layout programs like Adobe InDesign can interpret and display the actual PostScript content directly, with full quality and accurate colors—eliminating the need for a separate preview.
The high-resolution pixel portion of the EPS image can also be JPEG-compressed while still maintaining full EPS functionality. As the name suggests, the PostScript code is "encapsulated" in the file. This makes the format relatively secure, but also means that the image cannot be edited once it has been placed in a layout. EPS files differ between PC and Mac platforms. Adobe Illustrator’s .ai format was based on EPS up through version 10, but starting with Illustrator CS (version 11), it is based on PDF instead.
DPI – Dots Per Inch
An acronym for "dots per inch," DPI is a unit of measurement for resolution, primarily used for surface-based units.
A raster image is made up of a number of image dots (pixels), and the number of these per inch determines the image's quality. Resolution is a term often used in photography to describe the maximum level of detail that can be reproduced. However, PPI (pixels per inch) is actually a more accurate term when referring to digital image resolution.
CMYK – Color Model for Four-Color Printing
A color model used in four-color printing based on subtractive color mixing, where the primary colors are cyan, magenta, and yellow, along with a "key color." In printing, this key color is almost always black.
-
C = Cyan
-
M = Magenta
-
Y = Yellow
-
K = Key color, usually black
CMYK and subtractive color mixing are used when blending inks on paper or other print media, meaning the colors are made visible by reflected light. This contrasts with devices like computer screens, which use emitted light and display colors using the RGB model—even if the underlying image was created in CMYK.
The Euroscale is a color standard for offset printing that follows the CMYK system.
